Codepen
So many things. Need to write out a bunch of pages, make site mobile responsive and accessible, etc.
I made a random color palette generator! It's on codepen currently. It is also probably the most inefficient way to go about making it in terms of my bad JavaScript skills, but it was a fun learning experience and I hope if I can figure out a few more things I can make a page on this site for it.
Getting the layout, colors, fonts, links sorted out, added analog device photos, and goal meters! I don't have much confidence in my web dev skills as someone who can't wrap my head around JavaScript, but I can't believe actually how quickly I've gotten this place kinda set up comapred to other sites I've played around with in the past :)
(If you've commented something nice on my page HII I can't reply directly until my account is a little older but pls know I appreciate the kindness!!)
Hey, I'm Carson (she/they)! I'm really passionate about the small web, slow living, and digital minimalism.
I recently started getting more into analog living--getting an MP3 player, ditching streaming and prioritizing physical media, journaling by hand, limiting social media usage, and so on. There is so much I want to learn and do creatively that modern tech has been an obstacle toward. This tech has also changed my life for the better as someone somewhat housebound--I wouldn't have met any of my wonderful friends without social media. But how I use it has to change to become more intentional, and Neocities seems like a decent midway to help me still keep up with people without losing my mind to the algorithmic feeds of everywhere else. I'm keeping a few accounts on mainstream sites like YouTube, but mostly with the purpose of having somewhere to host the things I make and meeting other people til I see what does and doesn't serve me best.
My goals right now are to take all my rambles about topics I care about and edit them into coherent articles/videos. I feel like I don't have much out there these days that I'm proud of, and the idea of making a small impact in people's lives by giving tips and info on the stuff I've found helpful adds some cool meaning to my life. And I think it would help me get more comfortable with how I express myself to turn these things into more proper projects and have stuff to engage with communities through.
To photograph: Laptops, Huion Kamvas Pro 16, Samsung tablet (bought to use as a basic eReader and play mahjong without social media, lmao), Nintendo DS/3DS, tarot cards, guided journals, ergonomic mouse and keyboard, microphone, earbuds, instruments. I perhaps am someone who prioritizes tech over basic necessities, lol. I am hoping to get a dumbphone next time I need a new one, but I have been fortunate that my current phone has lasted me like 6 years and I don't wanna replace it until necessary... It just requires me to use Minimalist Launcher on it for now so I don't get too sucked in.
Thinking I may want these images to lead places: MP3 player goes to music playlists, journal to my blog, tablet ot my art, mic to YouTube, etc...? Anyway, I got the desk idea from a specific person on SubStack but I mistakenly cleared my history due to caching issues before saving the article :(
Tracking things I'd like to accomplish!
